NOTE ABOUT OCTAVE CHORDS (guitar) Hi guys (and girls)! There's one "mistake" in my tabs, from which you have noted me a couple of times. In some songs there are parts when I thought that only single notes were played, but there are also those octave notes added into them. The tabs aren't wrong (they are the right notes), but the octave note is missing. The Decline is the first one I did with octave chords. If I revised all my tabs, it would take thousands of years so I made this general note. NOFX uses octave chords in almost every song. The Offspring uses them very rarely. : Here's an example. If my tab says: it USUALLY is: E-------| E-------| B-------| B-------| G-------| G---9---| D-------| D-------| A---7---| A---7---| E-------| E-------| : E E : That "USUALLY" means that sometimes they're not changed. You can hear it by listening the song - octave chords are more higher than the plain ones. If you can't play it with octave chords, play it with the single notes. For example, Green Corn's intro2A is kinda difficult to play with octave chords so I still play it with single notes. The difference is actually very small. : Sometimes you have to change the string to create an octave chord. For example: If my tab says: it USUALLY is: E-------| E-------| B-------| B-------| G-------| G---9---| D---2---| D-------| A-------| A---7---| E-------| E-------| : E E : Here's some examples from couple of songs: : LINOLEUM My tab: # riff2 #B play every note X6 E-------------------------------------------------| B-------------------------------------------------| G-------------------------------------------------| D---6-----6---------------------------------------| A---------------3-----3-----7-----7-----7-----6---| E-------------------------------------------------| Revision: # riff2 #B play every note X6 E-------------------------------------------------| B-------------------------------------------------| G--13----13-----5-----5-----9-----9-----9-----8---| D-------------------------------------------------| A--11----11-----3-----3-----7-----7-----7-----6---| E-------------------------------------------------| : BOB My tab: # verse4 #A&B X2 *=play 4-5X E-------------------------| B-------------------------| G----*-----*--------------| D---5-----3---2--*-----*--| A---------------3-----5---| E-------------------------| Revision: # verse4 #A&B X2 *=play 4-5X E-------------------------| B----*-----*-----*-----*--| G--12----10---9-5-----7---| D-------------------------| A--10-----8---7-3-----5---| E-------------------------| : THE DESPERATION'S GONE My tab: # intro #B E---------------------------------------------------| B---------------------------------------------------| G---------------------------------------------------| D---7---5---5---6---7---5---5---6---7---5---5---3---| A---------------------------------------------------| E---------------------------------------------------| Revision: # intro #B E---------------------------------------------------| B---------------------------------------------------| G--14--12--12--13--14--12--12--13--14--12--12--10---| D---------------------------------------------------| A--12--10--10--11--12--10--10--11--12--10--10---8---| E---------------------------------------------------| : HOW TO PLAY THEM? Note that the way I'm marking the chords is missing something. Actually there should be a "X" ( =mute ) on the D-string, 'cause you pick it too when you play an octave chord. You pick it, but you mute it with your index finger, which is taking the chord! It doesn't make a sound at all when playing with amplifier... : Hope you know now how to create them. It shouldn't be too hard - just the same note, which is in the original tab + octave! It'll be changed in future tabs so you don't have to cope it yourself anymore. Thanks for all the people, who have informed me about this... : See ya, JiiHoo
