TAB-AID A lot of people have asked me to fully explain the symbols, that I use in my tabs. Well here's some instructions, although they still might be difficult to understand. I should have a video or something like that, but try to survive. These are made for left-handed guitarists: : : Bend up ( b,e,( ) : Pick a note and move ("bend") the string upwards so that the note sounds higher. : Bend up half step (e) : Pick a note and bend it so that it sounds like the next half step note : (+1 on the fretboard). : Bend up one step (b) : Pick a note and bend it so that it sounds like the next full note : (+2 on the fretboard). : Flute (f) : Like muting (with only one finger!), but now you hear a high-pitched sound. Works only in : a few parts of the fretboard! These are between frets 4&5, 5&6, 7&8, 9&10, 12&13... : Hammer-on (h) : Pick a note and then press your next finger to next note without picking again. : Keep on bending (k) : While playing a bended note, don't bend it over and over again. Just keep it : bended while picking it. : Mute or Left-hand Mute ( X,m ) : Keep your left hand ON the strings while playing. Don't press the : strings to the fretboard. : Palm-mute ( p,p-m,m ): Press your right hand to the place where the strings "begin" while playing. : Should sound like (damp - damp - damp...). : Pause ( % ) : Well you know - Don't play, be quiet... : Pick Slide ( <<< ) : Turn your pick sidewards and slide it "upstream" against the strings : (sounds like scrrrraaaa...). : Pinch Harmonics (c) : Strike the string with your pick while simultaneously hitting the string with : the side of your thumb (which is holding the pick). Makes a squealing sound. : Pull-off (p) : Pick a note and then release your first finger still pressing the next note with your : other finger. Like hammer-on backwards. : Release bending : Release the bended note down so that the original note sounds again. Like bending : backwards. : Slide up ( / ) & Slide down ( \ ) : Pick a note and after that slide your finger up or down the : fretboard still pressing hard. : Vibrato ( v,~ ) : Pick a note and shake your left hand (or use "vibrato-crank") so that the sound : goes like waa-waa-waa-waa. : *=play 4-6X : Simply means that notes marked with * are played 4, 5 or 6 times. Listen to the part and figure the timings yourself! : Note me if I forgot something... JiiHoo
